Teachers leading Advanced Placement, and Career and Technology Education classes could receive a percentage of merit pay depending on how their classes did if the Pearland ISD board of trustees approve the funds at its Nov. 12 meeting.

The overview

PISD's AP merit pay program is designed to improve student participation and performance on AP exams, district documents show.

The amount requested to the board for consideration for the 2023-24 AP merit pay is $200,000. The formula yields a point total for each teacher. Each teacher’s percentage of the overall point total for all qualifying teachers is the percentage they will earn out of $200,000, district documents show.

According to district documents, the payouts are determined by a formula based on the following considerations:
  • Exam participation
  • Passing rates compared to state and global passing rates
  • Individual student scores
What else?

The CTE incentive pay program is designed to improve students participating in classes that lead to industry certifications, according to district documents.

The certification or exam must correlate to the CTE course and come from the Texas Education Agency list of state and national certifications for college and career readiness.

The amount requested to the board for consideration for the 2023-24 CTE incentive pay is $50,000, district documents show. The total amount of incentive pay earned exceeds the budget amount approved by the board. This means teachers will receive an equitable percentage of the $50,000, according to district documents.
