Pearland ISD’s board of trustees approved forming a school health advisory council, or SHAC, at its Sept. 10 meeting.

The overview

The SHAC will serve as an advisory role to help the district in making any possible changes to its health education instruction, according to PISD agenda documents.

The council is mandated by Senate Bill 19, which requires school districts to consider the recommendations of the local SHAC before changing the district’s health education curriculum, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
