The SHAC will serve as an advisory role to help the district in making any possible changes to its health education instruction, according to PISD agenda documents.
The council is mandated by Senate Bill 19, which requires school districts to consider the recommendations of the local SHAC before changing the district’s health education curriculum, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The district’s 2024-25 SHAC is made up of 32 members, including the following amount of representatives:
- Twelve PISD parent representatives
- Four high school student representatives
- Five community representatives, including a pediatrician
- Eleven district representatives
- Sept. 23
- Nov. 4
- Feb. 3
- April 14
Meetings are open to the public, PISD Director of Communications Aliana Wynn said. The names and titles of each representative can be found in the district’s agenda documents.
