Seven new personnel positions will be considered by the board of trustees at Pearland ISD’s Aug. 20 board meeting due to growth in various parts of the district.

The overview

The requests for new positions come from increased dual-language kindergarten students at Carleston Elementary School; special education bus riders and special education enrollment in the Pearland’s Essential and Academic Readiness Skills, or PEARS; and Behavior Support and Intervention, or BSI, programs, according to PISD agenda documents.

Among the new positions PISD administration has requested, one dual-language classroom aide for Carleston Elementary dual-language kindergarten students has been requested. This is to meet the district’s target ratio of 22 students per teacher, as all dual-language classrooms in kindergarten currently exceed that ratio, according to district documents.

What else?

According to district documents, the following other positions have been requested from PISD administration:
  • 2 special programs bus monitors
  • 2 BSI aides
  • 2 PEARS aides
This will cost the district over $194,000 through general funds, according to district documents.

If approved, the cost for adding seven new positions will be offset by inactivating a current fleet supervisor position, which amounts to over $84,000, documents show.
