Editor's note: This article has been updated to clarify the addition of half of a classroom aide.

Pearland ISD’s board of trustees approved future hiring of six full-time staff members for the 2024-25 school year at its May 14 meeting.

The positions will be to balance campus ratios, and for the district’s food service and bilingual services departments, according to district agenda documents.

The gist

Based on staff projections, the administration has recommended the district hire the following positions for the 2024-25 school year:
  • One food service equipment warehouse supervisor, who will supervise the warehouse operations and warehouse employees as well as manage food service equipment and vehicles
  • One catering manager, who will carry out the catering duties for the district
  • One bilingual diagnostician, who will provide evaluation support to PISD’s emergent bilingual students and their families
  • Three classroom teachers to maintain student-teacher ratios
Within that package, PISD also approved half of a classroom aide position. That will be combined with another vacant half position the district has to make one full classroom aide position, officials confirmed in a May 17 email.

By the numbers

The total cost will be just below $418,800, according to district documents.
Payments for these staff additions will be made through the food service fund; federal fund Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Part B, or IDEA B; and general 199 funds, which stem from local taxes, according to district documents.
