Alvin ISD’s Citizen Advisory Committee discussed solutions to manage the district’s growth at its April 29 meeting.

Among the solutions, a bond ranging from $350 million-$400 million was discussed.

The overview

There are just under 30,000 students enrolled in AISD, according to a Feb. 5 news release from the district. By 2028, AISD is projected to enroll more than 33,000 students and just under 37,000 by 2033.

To manage this growth, the CAC is considering proposing to the district’s board of trustees new additions and renovations for the district. Those include:
  • Two new elementary schools, projected to come out in 2025 and 2027; and a replacement elementary school for Disney Elementary and Stevenson Primary in 2026
  • One new junior high campus, which could open in 2027
  • Renovations and additions to Manvel High School and Alvin High School
  • A land and security package
The total for these new additions and renovations to the district will be about $395.1 million, but the district has saved $15 million from the 2018 bond, Associate Superintendent Daniel Combs said at the meeting. These savings bring the total down to about $380.1 million.

  • $375 million: two-cent decrease in FY 2024-25 and a two-cent decrease in FY 2025-26; decrease of $40 per year to a home valued at $200,000

The CAC will have its next meeting on May 6 to discuss survey findings and potentially submit a recommendation for a new bond. While the CAC does not approve bond elections, they have the ability to submit recommendations to AISD and the board of trustees, according to the district’s website.

CAC meetings are open to the public, according to the district’s website.

Officials expect any recommendation from the CAC to go to the board in June, according to district documents.
