Friendswood ISD students will start school Aug. 13 for the 2024-25 school year after the board of trustees approved the new academic calendar at its Jan. 16 meeting.

What you need to know

At the December board meeting, district administration shared three draft instructional calendar options for the upcoming school year. The approved calendar was recommended by the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee, the District Advisory Committee and an all-staff survey, according to the district agenda document.

The last day of school will be May 22, 2025, documents show.

According to the documents, scheduled breaks for FISD include:
  • Thanksgiving break, Nov. 25-29
  • Winter break, Dec. 23-Jan. 3
  • Spring break, March 17-21
Student holidays include:
  • Labor Day, Sept. 2
  • District professional learning, which fall on Sept. 16, Nov. 1, Jan. 6 and May 23
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 20
  • Presidents Day, Feb. 17
