Construction on Friendswood ISD's new Cline Elementary School is close to wrapping up, officials announced July 21.

What you need to know

Cline Elementary School is set to be "substantially completed" by Aug. 1, and will be ready to welcome staff on Aug. 7 and students for the first day of school of Aug. 15, Superintendent Thad Roher said in his weekly update July 21.

However, even with staff and students in the building, work will still need to be done on the grounds as well as landscaping, Roher said in his update.

The backstory

As part of its bond passed in 2020, FISD set out in 2022 to build Cline Elementary as a replacement to the old Cline Elementary on Briarmeadow Avenue.

The bid for the project was approved in February 2022 and came in at $36 million.

Quote of note

With many construction projects going on and changes to some of the schedule—as well as setbacks tied to a recent roof collapse at Friendswood High School that killed a construction worker—Roher in his update thanked the community for their "understanding and support."

"We have navigated through many hardships together as a community," Roher said in his update. "I would like your grace and understanding as we navigate through these changes in the construction schedule together."
