The Alvin ISD board of trustees approved a variety of different resolutions to approve staffing positions, employment of personnel, administrative appointments and an administrative position at its Feb. 14 meeting.

The board approved the employment of various contract personnel including teachers and staff, initial staffing positions at the district’s upcoming Nichols-Mock Elementary School for a total of $2.3 million, and Sandy Holdsclaw as principal of Nichols-Mock Elementary School.

“We will be opening our new elementary [school] next year, and again we need initial staffing positions for consideration to begin hiring this evening,” Superintendent Carol Nelson said. “Once the principal is named, we can start posting positions.”

The board also approved additional positions at Iowa Colony High School for a total of about $1 million, according to the agenda item. A total of 14 new teaching positions will become available at Iowa Colony High School, and staffing will be requested alongside 2023-24 district staffing requests, Executive Director of Human Resources Syreeta Presley and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Johnny Briseño said in a memorandum attached to the agenda item.

“In order to prepare for the addition of the 11th grade at Iowa Colony High School, we have additional positions that we’re requesting for the 2023-24 school year,” Nelson said. “We would like to begin posting these positions and consider hiring for [the] next school year.”

Furthermore, the board appointed Kylie Kunefke as assistant principal of Alvin High School and Kirk Martin as assistant athletic director and head football coach of Manvel High School.
