Club officials said they aimed to feature the artists of today while investing in the artists of tomorrow in the Friendswood community. Thirty-six artists, including seven Friendswood High School art students and four FISD art teachers, created 12-inch-by-12-inch canvases sold in the Dec. 9 online auction. The auction raised $4,680, exceeding the club’s goal of $3,600.
“We owe a huge thank you to the Conroe Art League for helping us get this project off the ground,” Friendswood Rotarian Dr. Rebecca Hillenburg said.
The funds raised will be put toward 13 elementary and secondary fine arts grants through FISD’s Adopt-A-Grant program.
Westwood Elementary’s “Mo Willems Musical” grant will take students on a field trip to Main Street Theater to see “Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus!” The goal of the grant is to promote literacy and introduce students to the art of musicals.
The “Artwork Sew Perfect” grant for FHS will fund a sewing machine and materials for art students who want to engage in more three-dimensional pieces of art. Students exploring this area will be able to participate in 3D categories in art competitions and community events.
“We are so grateful to collaborate with Rotary on this new fundraiser,” FEF Executive Director Ashley Adair said. “I loved visiting with the winner of each art piece at pick-up and hearing their unique ‘why’ behind their decision to support the project.”
