The Pearland ISD board of trustees plans to add a behavior support intervention aide to Challenger Elementary School’s Behavior Support Intervention special education program.

During the regular Oct. 11 board meeting, the board passed a motion 6-0 with Trustee Nanette Weimer absent.

“This is a full-time position,” Superintendent Larry Berger said.

The program is staffed by two adults who serve five students with one student pending placement by the admission, review and dismissal committee, according to the PISD agenda.

“This position will allow us to provide the support that our students need to be successful,” Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Lisa Nixon said.

The addition of the new personnel will cost the district $26,638 in the fiscal year 2022-23 budget.

The program provides intervention to students for behaviors that are disruptive to the learning environment, according to the PISD website.
