State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness results show Alvin ISD students in grades 3-8 improved upon the previous year’s results and scored higher than a majority of state averages.
In all STAAR grades 3-8 categories, including reading, math, science and social studies, AISD students improved upon the previous year’s average scores in the “approaches grade level” category. Possible performance levels on these exams include: did not meet grade level, approaches grade level and above, meets grade level and above, and masters grade level.

Some categories included significant improvements year over year, including fourth grade reading in which AISD students improved their average score by nine percentage points, and eighth grade math in which they improved by seven points.

Fifth grade math is the sole category in which scores remained the same year over year at 69% of students approaching grade level. Additionally, the only two categories in which AISD scores were less than state averages were in fifth grade math and seventh grade math, by six percentage points and two points, respectively.
