The Alvin Community College Foundation designated $25,000 for the Dr. Christal M. Albrecht Endowment scholarship. Albrecht is retiring June 30 after serving as the college president for seven years, according to a press release from the college.

Since the scholarship was created, over $60,000 has been donated to the scholarship.

“The foundation is proud to establish this endowment in Dr. Albrecht’s name in honor of the important contributions she has made as ACC’s president,” ACC Foundation President Shirley Brothers said in the press release. “Future ACC students will benefit from her forward thinking and determination to make this college a quality institution.”

During Albrecht’s time as president of ACC, the college reached its highest enrollment ever, underwent renovations and upgrades with the bond, established a strategic plan, obtained its sixth accreditation and remained on the Aspen Institute’s rankings as one of the top community colleges in the United States, according to the release from the college.

A reception will be held in Albrecht’s honor June 24 from 2-4 p.m. at the Nolan Ryan Center. The event is open to the public, according to the release.

“We invite everyone to come and thank Dr. Albrecht and all that she has done for Alvin Community College,” said Wendy Del Bello, ACC vice president of outreach and development, in the release.
