This calendar also gives students the day off the Monday after Easter. The calendar committee has often asked for it, but in the past the district has not been able to give that day off due to the start of State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness testing, said Sonia Serrano, senior assistant superintendent for intermediate education.
The district has also been urged by the state to build in four bad weather days into the calendar, as opposed to the two days they typically build into the school year, Kelly said. The calendar also has students in class for 15 minutes less every day compared to the 2020-21 school year.
