The board heard information on the teen leadership class and approved a contract for upgrades and repairs at the Friendswood High School auditorium. 1. The board may not be offering teen leadership for sixth grade and will keep all sixth-grade electives, including theatre arts. The board was presented with more information about the need for the teen leadership class, as requested at the March 5 meeting. The sixth-grade electives list will still include theatre arts and will not be replaced by teen leadership. The board and Diana Myers, assistant superintendent of secondary curriculum and instruction, are hoping for other alternatives so that the leadership class can still be offered to the sixth grade. "We're going to continue to look at avenues to include teen leadership at the sixth-grade level," Myers said. 2. The board approved times for the 2018-2019 school year. Here are the times set for each school: Cline Elementary: 7:35 a.m.-2:43 p.m. Windsong Elementary: 8:10 a.m.-3:18 p.m. Westwood and Bales intermediates: 7:55 a.m.-3:03 p.m. Friendswood Junior High: 8:45 a.m.-3:53 p.m. Friendswood High School: 8:45 a.m.-3:53 p.m. 3. The board approved a contract to motorize the auditorium lights. The lights currently have to be moved manually, which is dangerous, according to a board report. Changes include motorizing the front batten so that the lights lower and rise automatically, among other safety changes. The board approved a contract with Crescent Electric and the price for the scope of the project is $265,000. The Friendswood ISD trustees will next meet May 14.
