Here are four takeaways from the Pearland Independent School District board meeting on Sept. 12.

1. PISD is still collecting data about students who have been displaced.

The district's office of communications sent out surveys to the student body about whether or not students have been displaced, PISD Superintendent John Kelly said. The district is still in the process of collecting information on how many students were displaced, Kelly said. The results from an employee telephone survey conducted by the district showed that an average of three to five employees per campus were affected by the flood.

2. PISD trustees approved employee pay through Hurricane Harvey.

The board passed a resolution that allows payment to all employees for the dates that the schools were closed due to Harvey. The total cost is less than  $75,000 for wages paid over the period that campuses were closed for Harvey, Kelly said.

3. The district is confident that campus closures due to Hurricane Harvey will not affect student success this year.

One of the discussions during the meeting was the academic success of students in the district. Trustee Charles Gooden Jr. was curious as to whether or not students would be affected academically by the storm. Kelly assured him this was not a concern.

“Personally Charles, our school district is so competitive that I am sure we will come out shining,” Kelly said.
