Pearland ISD consistently scored higher than the state average on 2016 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exams, according to data released Monday.
PISD earned a districtwide Met Standard rating with no campuses earning a Needs Improvement rating.
End-of-course exams for high school students included algebra I, biology, English I, English II and U.S. history.
Statewide algebra I scores reflect an 81 percent satisfactory rating, while PISD scores were 93 percent satisfactory. PISD scored 7 percent higher than the state average in biology and 5 percent higher in U.S. history with a 98 and 99 percent satisfactory rating, respectively.
English I and II test scores were 19 and 17 percent higher than the state average with a 82 and 83 percent satisfactory rating, respectively.
Among grades three through eight, all students took the reading and math STAAR tests. Statewide, sixth graders scored lowest with a 71 percent satisfactory rating in reading, and eighth graders scored the highest with an 82 percent satisfactory rating. In PISD, fifth graders scored the lowest with an 87 percent satisfactory rating, and eighth graders scored the highest with a 96 percent satisfactory rating.
PISD fourth graders scored 12 percent higher on the STAAR writing exam than the state average with an 81 percent satisfactory rating, and seventh graders scored 18 percent higher than the state average at 88 percent.
In social studies and science, eighth grade scores in PISD were 92 percent and 83 percent satisfactory, respectively. PISD eighth graders scored 18 percent higher in social studies and 16 percent higher in science than the state average. PISD fifth graders also scored 14 percent higher than the state average in science with an 89 percent satisfactory rating.
