Brazoria County average daily COVID-19 cases have decreased to the lowest point since the new year began.

Brazoria County from Feb. 4-22 averaged about 124 new single-day COVID-19 each day, according to Brazoria County Health Department’s dashboard data. That is roughly a 69.88% decrease from what the county was averaging between Jan. 20 and Feb. 3 when it was reporting roughly 413 cases daily.

The county reported 223 cases Feb. 22, which accounted for the extended holiday weekend from Feb. 19-22, according to Brazoria County’s Twitter account. Brazoria County reported one new COVID-19-related death Feb. 22 and in that same window reported 461 recoveries.

The number of active cases in the county has also fallen since early February. On Feb. 3, there were 5,412 active cases in Brazoria County, which had fallen to 1,231 active cases as of Feb. 22, a 77.25% decrease.

Between Feb. 4-22, Brazoria County has reported 2,365 new cases; 7,161 recoveries; and 19 new deaths, according to dashboard data. In Pearland, the county is reporting 471 active cases.


According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, 61.76% of Brazoria County’s population age 5 and older is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Feb. 22, which is an increase of 0.57%—or about 2,121 people—from Feb. 3 based on Brazoria County’s population from 2020 U.S. Census Bureau data.
