Brazoria County has seen a drop-off in active COVID-19 cases in the region compared to Jan. 5, according to Brazoria County Health Department data. However, the average new single-day COVID-19 cases has increased since Jan. 5.

Between Jan. 5 and Jan. 19, Brazoria County averaged 629.93 new COVID-19 cases each day, which is an increase from the 427.86 average new cases a day from between Dec. 15 and Jan. 5, according to data from the BCHD dashboard.

The biggest difference, however, has been the decrease in active cases in the county from Jan. 5 to Jan. 19. According to county data, on Jan. 5 there were 8,958 confirmed active cases. The number of active cases had fallen to 6,147 as of Jan. 19.

A factor in the decrease of active cases is the number of recoveries the county has reported. On Jan. 5, the county had reported a total of 59,134 recoveries since the pandemic began. The number of recoveries has increased to 70,822, which is an increase of 19.77%, or 11,688 recoveries reported between Jan. 6-19.

The county reported 623 cases on Jan. 19 with 26 of them over two weeks old, according to Brazoria County’s Twitter account. Brazoria County reported one new COVID-19-related death Jan. 19.


In total since the county began tracking, there have been 78,250 COVID-19 cases reported, which is an increase of 8,674 since Jan. 5. Additionally, there have been 734 deaths, which is an increase of 18 since Jan. 5, according to dashboard data.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, 60.56% of Brazoria County’s population age 5 and older is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which is an increase of 0.78%—or about 2,901 people—from Jan. 5, based on Brazoria County’s population from 2020 U.S. Census Bureau data.
