Brazoria County residents have reported identity thieves have called them, threatening them for failing to report to fake jury services.

The reported thieves demand money and confidential information while claiming to be part of the Brazoria County district clerk’s office, according to a press release from the county.

“These scammers are threatening jurors in an attempt to fraudulently receive money. Do not give them money, personal or credit card information,” the release states.

Brazoria County District Clerk Donna Starkey said people who miss jury duty will never be notified by a phone call; they would receive a letter from the clerk’s office. Additionally, she said the district clerk’s office will never call to request any personal information, such as Social Security numbers or credit card information.

The press release asks anyone who receives calls about missing jury duty to call the district clerk's office at 979-864-1836 and the Brazoria County district attorney's office at 979-864-1230.
