Residents in Pearland and Manvel are being asked to voluntarily conserve water as both cities activated their Stage 1 drought contingency plans during the week.

Under Pearland’s Stage 1 drought plan, resident and nonresident Pearland Water customers are asked to voluntarily limit outdoor watering to only twice per week on a customer's trash days, abstaining from watering between 9 a.m.-7 p.m., voluntarily waiting until drought conditions improve before adding new landscaping and voluntarily minimizing or discontinuing nonessential water usage.

In Manvel, total daily water demand equaled or exceeded 60% of the city’s water production capacity from July 18-20, which is what triggered the city's drought plan, according to a city news release.

Under Manvel’s Stage 1 plan, the city’s water customers are asked to voluntarily limit the irrigation of landscaped areas; customers with a street address ending in even numbers will limit irrigation to Sundays and Thursdays while those with a street address ending in odd numbers will limit irrigation to Saturdays and Wednesdays.

Manvel asks for its water customers to irrigate from midnight-10 a.m. only on designated watering days. Manvel water customers are also asked to minimize or stop nonessential water use, such as for car washes, building surfaces, driveways or sidewalks.
