Galveston County will file an application to complete the acquisition of the Frenchmans Creek Townhomes, said city officials at a Friendswood City Council meeting on March 4. Friendswood will acquire three of the buildings for $2.1 million, and Galveston County will fund the acquisition of the remaining two for $1.7 million. Both the city and county are using funds from the Community Development Block Grant administered for Hurricane Harvey-related buyouts. “Frenchmans Creek was severely hit. For Galveston County to step up and help us out ... I really appreciate it,” Council Member Sally Branson said. Frenchmans Creek has flooded at least four times, city officials said. The complex consists of five buildings with 20 units total. The tenants are interested in being bought out, Deputy Director Fire Marshal Brian Mansfield said. Once acquired, the land could be used for green space or a flood control project.
