Primary runoff early voting ends, mental health funding: 6 Pearland, Friendswood news items for May 14-18

City & county
- Pearland City Council meets at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 3519 Liberty Drive, with a special session to confirm the election results and give the oath of office to Derrick Reed, who ran for re-election unopposed. The council's regular business begins at 6:30 p.m., when it will ask for public input on the city's application for Community Development Block Grants, which this year includes a $30,000 request to fund mental health services in area schools.
- Friendswood City Council will have a special meeting on Monday to officially approve the election results, officially making Mike Foreman the new mayor and welcoming new Council Members Trish Hanks and Robert Griffon. Council Member Steve Rockey will also officially begin his new term. It will be the last meeting for Mayor Kevin Holland and Council Member Jim Hill. A reception follows the meeting.
- Early voting in the primary runoff ends on Friday. Local races in the runoff include U.S. Representative for District 22 in the Democratic Party and Galveston County Commissioner, Precinct 4, in the Republican Party.
