Election results
- Friendswood elected a new mayor and two new council members. Former astronaut Mike Foreman will succeed Mayor Kevin Holland after taking 54 percent of the vote. Trish Hanks and Robert Griffon will be the new additions to the council.
- Adrian Hernandez and Dalia Kasseb will face each other in a runoff for Pearland City Council. Neither candidate received over 50 percent of the vote.
City & county
- Friendswood City Council meets at 4:30 p.m. Monday. The agenda includes discussion and possible approval of the interlocal agreement related to the Galveston County bond program that could fund construction of Friendswood Lakes Boulevard.
- The Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation board meets at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The board will hear an update on the downtown survey results.
- The Brazoria County Commissioners will have a regular meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The agenda includes approving the process for how housing will be prioritized in Harvey grant applications.
- The city of Friendswood will have a hurricane preparedness meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Friendswood Library, 416 S. Friendswood Drive.

- This week, STAAR testing is underway for Friendswood and Pearland ISDs.
- The Alvin ISD board of trustees will meet at noon on Tuesday at the Tommy King Administration Building, 301 E. House St., Alvin
- Pearland ISD's board of trustees will have a budget workshop at 4 p.m. Thursday 1928 North Main, Pearland, Texas.

- The Farmers Insurance - Sally Mercer Agency is celebrating 40 years in business with a free breakfast from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
- The Pearland Branch Library will officially celebrate its grand re-opening from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

- The Centre at Ridge Rock, a new retail center, has opened near Pearland Town Center. Tenants will include Southern Tails, Italiano’s Restaurant, Tuscany Nails, Elite Chiropractic, Shadow Creek Pharmacy, Idea Lab Kids, Lotus Seafood, Dawn’s Donut Shop and more.
