In response to reports of alligator sightings in the Green Tee Terrace neighborhood, the Pearland Police Department has issued some tips for what to do if residents encounter the creatures. The alligator spotted earlier this week has been seen by residents, but officials have not put eyes on it, Pearland Police Public Information Officer Jason Wells said. "It seems to appear every couple of days. We get a call, and we go try to locate it, and by then it's snuck away," he said. Getting a sense of the size of the animal is key. "If it's under six feet, it's considered a nuisance and Animal Control can relocate it," Wells said. "If it's bigger, then we have to get Texas Parks and Wildlife involved, and the state is good at handling and relocating them properly and safely." Among the tips shared by Pearland police on Friday:
  • Leave alligators alone. State law prohibits killing, harassing or possessing alligators.
  • Never feed or entice alligators. It is dangerous and illegal.
  • Don’t allow pets to swim, exercise or drink in or near waters that may contain alligators.
  • If you hear an alligator hiss, it is a warning that you are too close.
To report an alligator, Wells said to contact Pearland Animal Control at 281-562-1970 or the Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden at 281-842-8100.
