“I love it because of the kids,” Nhean said. “Some of them feel like they hit the jackpot just to get a free doughnut. It's so adorable.”
What’s on the menu?
The business carries the traditional glazed doughnut, chocolate and maple iced, red velvet cake, and other variations of the sweet treat loaded up with different toppings, such as candies, cookies, sprinkles and desserts. In addition to doughnuts, the menu includes kolaches, hot breakfast items and a variety of drinks to pair with its food selection.
However, the doughnut shop specializes in customizations, Nhean said. These include themed doughnuts to commemorate holidays, teachers and students going back to school, the ushering in of a new season, or any significant event.
Best Donuts of Pearland was established in 2000. And although a popular doughnut chain moved in across the street a few years ago, Nhean said the 23-year-old veteran shop has loyal patrons who return again and again simply for the nostalgia.
“We have customers [who] grew up here, and they still come here,” Nhean said. “Sometimes they move [to a] different state. They come to visit the parents that live here, and they come visit [us] because they came when they were little.”
What else?
Since 2019, Nhean has also increased the shop’s social media presence and expanded its menu to include breakfast tacos and a few new flavors of doughnuts. Though she said she enjoys the freedom of ownership, it also takes a lot of work to stay relevant.
But Nhean said she trusts her Pearland customer base to keep the doughnut shop on the rise.
“[Pearland] supports a lot of small [businesses],” Nhean said. “They come and they grab breakfast, and it's like we know each other. I feel close to my customers.”
