Locally owned Bailey Oaks Farms recently opened on the border of Pearland and Alvin. The company, Equestrian Advisors has been operating in the area since 2013 but just started lessons on April 21 at the new barn, located at 7220 County Road 128 in Alvin. Bailey Oaks Farms trains horses for jumping competitions and teaches classes for adults and children as young as 5 years old. MedExpress is now open at 11826 Broadway St., Pearland. The clinic provides treatment for common illnesses and allergies, urgent care, and basic wellness and prevention services. MedExpress also offers X-rays, minor surgery, stitches and treatments for broken bones, sprains and strains. To celebrate the grand opening, MedExpress is offering free sports physicals until May 1. A pub chain specializing in microbrews, Growler USA, is celebrating its grand opening in the Fountain Plaza Center at 2111 W. Parkwood Ave., Ste. 115, Friendswood on April 27. The franchise offers 100 taps of craft beer, including several Texas brews, as well as other drink options including draught wines, hard ciders, non-alcoholic kombucha teas, cold-pressed coffee and craft root beer. Just months after opening in October, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Pearland at 2121 Business Center Drive will be renamed Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Pearland, as of April 26. The Swiss biomedical firm Lonza will officially unveil its manufacturing plant in Pearland’s Lower Kirby district, 14905 Kirby Drive, on April 10. The company says its Pearland site will develop cell and gene therapies from concept, through pre-clinical, clinical and commercialization, all the way to the patient. The company has had a Houston presence since 2010 near the Texas Medical Center, employing 168 people. The new 250,000 square-foot facility in Pearland will be the biggest of its kind and is expected to add over 200 new jobs in the coming years, the company said. DiMassi’s Mediterranean Buffet is now open at 3050 Silverlake Village Drive, Pearland. This location will offer Mediterranean fare, including kebabs, falafel and tabouli salad. This will be the first location to offer lamb shank on the buffet line, as well as new salad options. Bombshells opened its largest Houston location off Hwy. 288 in Pearland on April 11. The restaurant serves pizza, hamburgers, chicken tenders, wings and more and is located at 13965 South Freeway in Pearland. The restaurant was constructed by Friendswood-based Tannos Construction. The facility has 750 units ranging from 25 square feet to 300 square feet, with climate control and indoor non-climate control options. South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1310 North Main St., Pearland, celebrated a grand re-opening on April 28 after six months of repairs following Hurricane Harvey. While the facility was affected, the funeral home continued to serve families by working with local funeral homes. The South Park home, open since 1970, had a total remodel, from floor to ceiling, with new furniture and audio-visual gear.
