Toll rates along the Brazoria County portion of Hwy. 288 saw a slight increase for motorists driving without a tag—and a decrease for those driving with one.

Explained

The Brazoria County Toll Road Authority controls four total mainlines on Hwy. 288—north and southbound Croix, and north and southbound McHard, according to a June 25 news release from the Harris County Toll Road Authority.

Starting July 1, the mainlines will have slightly different rates, according to the release. The new rates, and how they compare to the old rates, are as follows:

Northbound and southbound McHard
  • EZ tag: $1.92 to $1.86
  • 3 axles: $4.68 to $3.92
  • 4 axles: $7.02 to $5.88
  • 5 axles: $9.36 to $7.84
  • 6 axles: $11.70 to 9.80
Northbound and southbound Croix
  • EZ tag: $1.17 to $1.09
  • 3 axles: $2.34 to $2.38
  • 4 axles: $3.51 to 3.57
  • 5 axles: $4.68 to $4.76
  • 6 axles: $5.85 to $5.95
Those driving without a tag will see an increase of a couple of cents, officials confirmed July 1.

Remember this?

The Harris County portion of Hwy. 288 was taken over by the Texas Department of Transportation in late 2024 after an agreement between the state and Blueridge Transportation Group was terminated.

Following the buyback, TxDOT officials said motorists can expect tolls along the highway reduced in the coming months and years.
