Hinojosa, Garza win Alvin ISD board of trustees Positions 6, 7, unofficial results show

Results remain unofficial until canvassed at a later date. Officials with AISD confirmed only a plurality is needed to win the race, meaning the top vote-getter will win the seat without needing a runoff race if they fail to obtain a majority of votes.

As polls closed at 7 p.m., results are starting to roll in for local elections across the state.

Local races for Alvin ISD board of trustees Positions 6 and 7 are on the ballot.

Here is where things stand with the first batch of unofficial results, according to Brazoria County.

As of 7:54 p.m., unofficial results from Brazoria County show the following:

• For Position 6, Fernando Hinojosa is leading Faynetta Burrle with 2,296 votes, or 54.34%, to 1,929 votes, or 45.66%.
• For Position 7, incumbent Gabe Garza is leading Cortney Morris and T'Liza Kiel with 1,994 votes, or 47.3%, to 650 votes, or 15.42% and 1,572 votes, or 37.29%, respectively.

In a Q&A with Community Impact for Position 6, Burrle said she wants to prioritize student needs and ensure that expansion is strategic, not reactionary.

Hinojosa said he wants to put students first, support educators and ensure decisions are transparent, practical and focused on results.

In a Q&A for Position 7, Garza said if elected his priority is to focus on tax payers by lowering the tax rate and invest in law enforcement.

Morris said she wants to implement consistent policies across all campuses to ensure that every student has equal access to resources.

Kiel said her main priority is to focus on academic excellence, educator support, mental health and strategic growth.
