Update on June 7 at 8:45 p.m.

With both voting precincts reporting, unofficial results from Brazoria County show Garrett Rossi Knox winning the race for Manvel City Council, Position 6.

Results will remain unofficial until canvassed by Manvel at a later date.

The unofficial results show Knox with 664 votes, or 55.2% of the vote total, to Robina Spruill's 539 votes, or 44.8% of the vote total.

Knox on June 7 told Community Impact he was declaring victory, saying he and his team "presented a people over party movement."

"My family has been here for four generations," he said. "I did this because I want this to be a place where I can raise a family and move Manvel forward."

If the results hold, Knox will take the spot of council member Jerome Hudson, who was ineligible to run due to having served three consecutive terms, according to city code.

As of 7 p.m., unofficial results from early voting totals have Knox with 455 votes, or 60.75% of the vote total, to Spruill’s 294 votes, or 39.25% of the vote total.

The pair are competing in a runoff election after neither obtained the majority needed to win the spot for Manvel City Council Position 6 on May 3, according to official results from Brazoria County.

While neither obtained a majority May 3, Knox and Spruill were the top two vote-getters in a three-person race, with Knox obtaining 40.76% and Spruill obtaining 38.74%. The third candidate, Kat Ducommun, finished with 20.5% of the vote.

The winner will replace council member Jerome Hudson, who did not file to run as he is ineligible due to having served three consecutive terms, officials told Community Impact in March.

Get to know the candidates

In a Q&A with Community Impact, Knox said there were many priorities he wanted to hit due to Manvel's fast growth. Roads and public service were among his top choices.

In that same Q&A, Spruill said she wanted to improve infrastructure and public safety.

What else?

The race is one of two that appeared on the May 3 ballot for Manvel City Council.

The other race, for Position 4, saw challenger Carmyn Robey-Robinson defeat incumbent Ed Perry with 54.31% of the vote to Perry’s 45.69%, official results from Brazoria County show. Robey-Robinson has since been sworn in and is currently on City Council.
