Over $2.2 million has been designated for teacher compensation for the teacher incentive allotment, or TIA, at Pearland ISD, according to a May 22 news release from the district.
What you need to know
The TIA was established by House Bill 3 in the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019 to provide a pathway for top-tier educators to earn six-figure salaries while helping districts across the state retain high-performing teachers.
Last year, PISD generated about $1.55 million through the allotment program, the news release notes.
The number of high-performing teachers receiving these designations has also risen from over 164 teachers last year to nearly 230 in the current cycle, according to the news release.
