Alvin ISD seeks community input for new facility names

According to district policy, school facilities are generally named after a person or a place:

• If naming after a person, the individual must have achieved prominence locally or nationally in fields such as education, science, art, statesmanship, political science, have military service or be an early Texas pioneer
• If naming after a place, the name must have historical relevance

Why now?

The campuses are part of the district’s 2024 bond program, which includes funding for two new elementary schools, a new junior high, and a replacement campus for Stevenson Primary and Walt Disney Elementary, as previously reported by Community Impact.

What’s next

A district naming committee is expected to begin meeting the week of April 27 to review submissions, narrow options and develop recommendations for the board of trustees, AISD’s Chief Communications Officer Renae Reeves said in an email April 22.

Final recommendations will be presented at a future board meeting with the date to be determined, according to the release.
