A track repair project at Shadow Creek High School and a turf replacement project at Alvin High School’s Memorial stadium will take place over the summer after the board of trustees approved the projects at its May 13 meeting.

The contracts and projects approved at the meeting totaled around $1.2 million.

The gist

Both projects are slated to begin in the summer and be completed by the beginning of August, district agenda documents note.

The track repairs at Shadow Creek High School will address the southern portion of the track, according to a recent assessment made by the district.


Meanwhile, the current turf at Alvin High School’s Memorial stadium has reached the end of its life cycle, according to district documents.

The cost

The track repair will cost $577,000 and the turf replacement will cost $677,490, both of which will be paid through the district’s capital funding account, according to district documents.

The board of trustees’ also approved fund transfers from the district's general fund to its capital account for these projects.


Also of note

Along with the approved fund transfer, the board also approved budget amendments for the following items:
  • Maintenance and administration, related to reallocating funds from tornado-related expenses: $415,000
  • Health, related to replacing “end of service” life-safety equipment throughout the district: $47,500
