Tropical Depression Harvey is strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico as it prepares to make landfall on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. A Storm Surge Watch is issued for coastal residents across Texas, stretching from Port Mansfield to High Island, according to Community Impact Newspaper media partner ABC 13. Harvey could redevelop into a tropical storm or could further strengthen into a hurricane, according to a statement from the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Harvey is expected to bring heavy rainfall and potential flooding across the Gulf Coast with affected areas seeing as much as 10-15 inches of rainfall, according to ABC 13.
