After a school shooting left as many as 10 dead in Sante Fe on Friday morning, Pearland ISD officials responded by asking for increased security at its campuses for the remainder of the school year.
The Pearland Police Department sent an officer or a plainclothes detective to every Pearland school, the school district said. Parents were notified about the measure, said Kim Hocott, executive director of communications for PISD. There will be an officer at or around every school for the school year.
"We are proceeding with the regular school day and an increased police presence," Hocott said.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said it has a suspect in custody and that a second one had been detained and questioned. Most of the victims of the shooting were students,
the sheriff said, and a school police officer also sustained injuries.
Sante Fe ISD said the situation had been contained and that Sante Fe High School students were being transported to the Alamo Gym located at 13306 Highway 6.
