Updated Aug. 30 12:25 p.m. The most recent news on road closures, evacuations, grocery store hours and shelters in Spring and Klein is updated daily on our site. As of Wednesday, several area grocery stores were open most of the day, multiple shelters have been set up in the area but many roads remained closed due to flooding. Read about it here. Aug. 28 5:20 p.m. Rain continues this week as Tropical Storm Harvey hovers over the region, leading to road closures throughout Spring and Klein. The persistent storm has also led to shelters opening in the area. The most recent information about the following shelter locations can be found on the district or organization Twitter pages.
  • Spring ISD announced Monday both Spring High School—located at 19428 I-45, Spring—and Westfield High School—located at 16713 Ella Blvd., Houston—are serving as unofficial shelters. The shelter is accepting bottled water, non-perishable food, clean sleeping bags, clean towels, new pillows, unopened toiletries, phone chargers, Clorox wipes, feminine sanitary products, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, pet crates and clean socks.
  • Klein ISD announced Monday the Klein Multipurpose Center—located at 7500 FM 2920, Spring—is serving as an unofficial shelter. The shelter’s greatest needs are cots, mattresses and adult shoes.
  • The Lone Star College System North Harris Campus—located at 2700 WW Thorne Drive, Houston—is serving as a shelter, but as of Monday afternoon the shelter had reached capacity.
  • Faithbridge church announced its Klein campus—located at 18000 Stuebner Airline Road, Spring—is serving as shelter. As of Monday afternoon, this shelter has reached capacity.
The Precinct 4 Constable's office has also shared information about Greater Houston area shelters.
According to Texas Department of Transportation’s highway conditions map at DriveTexas.org, the following major roads are closed due to flooding as of Monday afternoon:
  • I-45 is flooded both northbound and southbound from Cypresswood Drive to FM 1960.
  • FM 2920 is flooded from I-45 to Hwy. 249.
  • Hwy. 249 is flooded near Louetta Road.

  • Aldine Westfield Road from Crane Hollow Lane to the bridge at Cypress Creek.
  • Louetta Road westbound at Vintage Preserve Parkway, near Pillot Gully.
  • Cypresswood Drive from I-45 to Hwy. 249.
  • Hufsmith-Kohrville Road north of Spring Cypress Road.
  • Jones Road south of Louetta Road to Cypresswood Drive.
  • Hufsmith-Kohrville Road from Boudreaux Road to Holderrieth Road.
  • Telge Road south of FM 2920.
  • Veterans Memorial Drive at Gears Road and W. Greens Road.
