Hurricane Harvey's approach has prompted schools and county offices to close, and Harris County Precinct 4 constable's office has announced that its high-water rescue vehicles are prepared for deployment. Here are a few things to know this weekend as the storm hits the Texas coast.
  1. Spring and Klein ISD canceled school-related activities on Saturday. Spring ISD officials will determine on Saturday if the district will remain closed on Monday. Klein ISD will make the same decision for its district by 4 p.m. on Sunday.
  2. All Harris County Public Library branches, including the Barbara Bush Branch Library at 6817 Cypresswood Drive in Spring, will be closed through Monday, according to the library website. A decision will be made Monday whether the libraries will reopen on Tuesday. Late fees will not be charged during this time period, according to the HCPL website.
  3. ExxonMobil has announced it will allocate $500,000 to regional Red Cross organizations along the Gulf Coast to assist with relief efforts related to Hurricane Harvey. ExxonMobil opened its Houston campus in Springwoods Village in 2014.
  4. The Texas Department of Transportation has suspended all lane closures in the Greater Houston area in preparation of Hurricane Harvey.
