Conroe | Montgomery Transportation Updates for February 2017

1. FM 1097 widening

The Texas Department of Transportation broke ground in July on an FM 1097 expansion project between I-45 and Hwy. 75. The project will expand the roadway from two to four lanes and add a continuous left-turn lane. The project includes new sidewalks. Construction is about 25 percent complete.

Timeline: July 11, 2016-first quarter 2018
Cost: $3.5 million

2. FM 149 improvements

TxDOT is working on a 13-month resurface and repair project on 10 miles of FM 149 between FM 1791 and FM 1097. The project will also add a 5-foot-wide shoulder throughout that length of roadway and is intended to improve traffic safety throughout the area. The project is about 50 percent complete but is on hiatus while nearby utilities are relocated.

3. FM 3083 railroad overpass 

TxDOT has undertaken a project that will widen FM 3083 from two to four lanes and build a bridge over the Union Pacific Corp. railroad tracks east of Hwy. 75. The agency has already widened FM 3083 in a separate project from I-45 to the starting location of the overpass bridge. The project has reached 30 percent completion and is expected to take about two years to finish.

4. Hwy. 105 improvement project 

The city of Conroe started construction on a Hwy. 105 improvement project
Oct. 10. The project adds a raised median throughout the roadway from I-45 to Frazier Street. The median will limit left-hand turns to designated intersections for transit safety purposes. Construction includes sidewalks on each side of the roadway.

5. West Side Loop completed

A new roadway that connects FM 1097 to Old Montgomery Road near I-45 in Willis was opened to traffic on Jan. 16. Crews also added a new stop sign at the intersection with FM 1097. The roadway also makes it possible for TxDOT to convert the I-45 southbound feeder road at the FM 1097 intersection into a one-way road. TxDOT plans for the feeder road project are in the design phase.
