H-E-B recalled its Fireside Roasted Nut Butter, a product that is only produced in nine of the company's stores, on Dec. 20. According to a news release, the notice affects the following two local stores:
- 5895 San Felipe St., Houston
- 9710 Katy Fwy., Houston
"The product is being removed [from H-E-B shelves] because there is potential it could be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," the release states.
This notice concerns Fireside Roasted Nut Butter with a Universal Product Code, or UPC, of 27009800000 and a "best by date" of Jan. 1, 2017. These products are found in prepackaged plastic containers marked Fireside Roasted Nut Butter or in-store nut grinders specified for Fireside Roasted Nut Butter.
Four stores in the Austin area, as well as three stores in San Antonio, are also subject to the recall notice.
The recall is an expansion of the
Dec. 14 recall of raw, unshelled pistachio nuts, an issue that was discovered through routine sampling by the Federal Drug Administration, the release states.
Customers who bought this product can return it to the store for a full refund. Customers can also contact H-E-B customer service with questions or concerns at 1-855-432-4438, Mon.-Fri. from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
