Updated July 15 at 3 p.m. Major road closures are set for this weekend at the intersection of Hwy. 290 and Beltway 8. Hwy. 290’s westbound exit ramps to northbound and southbound Beltway 8 will be closed from 9 p.m. July 15 through 5 a.m. July 18. Drivers traveling northbound will use the Beltway 8 frontage road entrance past Philippine Street, and those traveling southbound can use the entrance ramp past W. Little York Road. Both connector ramps to westbound Hwy. 290 from Beltway 8 will also be closed from 9 p.m. July 15 through 5 a.m. July 18. Drivers traveling southbound will be detoured to the West/Gulf Bank/Philippine exit where they can continue on the frontage road to Hwy. 290. Those driving northbound will be detoured to the W. Little York exit. During the closure, the portion of Hwy. 290 westbound mainlanes from Fairbanks N. Houston to FM 529 will be closed as well. Drivers will be detoured to the Hwy. 290 frontage road and can reenter before Jones Road. Hwy. 290's eastbound mainlanes at Telge Road will have one inside lane closed from 9 p.m. July 15 through 5 p.m. July 16. The new Hwy. 290 westbound collector-distributor, a two-lane roadway, will be open. The entrance ramp from W. Little York and exit ramp to FM 529 will be open. In about six weeks, the Senate exit ramp will be open as well. Crews will place westbound mainlanes in a temporary configuration after this weekend traffic switch so contractors can work safely in the Project G reconstruction. For the next six weeks, those traveling westbound in the two outside mainlanes will be shifted to the new collector-distributor just past the Beltway 8 exit. After about a mile, motorists will rejoin the mainlanes. The eastbound Hwy. 290 exit ramp to Becker Road closed July 5 and will not open again until Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. Motorists can detour to the next exit ramp, Bauer Road, and U-turn back to Becker Road. All closures are subject to change due to weather, emergency work or other events, officials with the Texas Department of Transportation said.
