Incumbent David Rosenthal earned the most votes in the race for Position 7 on the Fort Bend ISD board of trustees, according to unofficial results released May 7.
With all 100 precincts reporting, Rosenthal earned 34 percent of votes, or 4,639 votes. Challenger Rose-Gilliam earned 24 percent of votes, or 3,242 votes; Ramirez earned 18 percent of votes, or 2,450 votes; Davidson earned 16 percent of votes, or 2,151 votes; and Leonard earned 9 percent of votes, or 1,175 votes.

Incumbent David Rosenthal leads the race for Position 7 on the Fort Bend ISD board of trustees, according to unofficial early voting results released May 7.
Rosenthal earned 34 percent of the vote, or 3,022 votes, followed by Shirley Rose-Gilliam with 25 percent of votes, or 2,203 votes; Laura Ramirez with 16 percent of votes, or 1,453 votes; James Davidson with 16 percent of votes, or 1,407 votes; and Sonja Nelson Leonard with 9 percent of votes, or 817 votes. A total of 8,902 ballots were cast during early voting.
Davidson said he attended FBISD as a student and has immersed himself in service while living in the community. He said his master’s degree in public administration and familiarity with the community has prepared him to serve the district. He works as a project manager.
Leonard has worked at public schools as a speech language therapist across the Greater Houston area and the country. To address disparities in discipline, Leonard said the district should ensure all school employees are taught and trained to recognize cultural differences versus inappropriate verbal and physical actions.
Ramirez is employed as a human resources director for Alief ISD and has children enrolled in FBISD. She said the district needs to be proactive rather than reactive and said she would advocate to ensure campuses are seen as unique communities with distinct and specific needs.
Rose-Gilliam has worked in public education for 27 years and is employed as a principal in Houston ISD.
Rosenthal has held the Position 7 seat on the board of trustees for the past four years and currently holds the position of board vice president. He works as a geophysicist for a local energy company. Rosenthal said he has been part of a team of trustees that have strived to make FBISD a district of choice.
Position 7 is the only contested FBISD race this May. Jim Rice is running unopposed for the Position 3 seat.
