Westbound Hwy. 290 ramps connecting to north- and southbound lanes of the Sam Houston Tollway will be closed starting Jan. 22 at 9 p.m. and through March 7 at 5 a.m. The closures are expected to cause significant delays in the area.

Westbound drivers on Hwy. 290 looking to transfer to northbound Sam Houston Tollway lanes can exit to the frontage road at the Gessner Road exit and turn right onto the Beltway 8 frontage road to enter the tollway.

Drivers needing to transfer to southbound tollway lanes can exit at Gessner Road, continue on the frontage road until Jones Road, make a U-turn and turn right onto the southbound Sam Houston Tollway.

During the closure, the Texas Department of Transportation will be completing pavement work as part of the Hwy. 290 expansion project. In mid-2016, new collector distributor lanes—two-lane elevated roadways that run parallel to the east- and westbound mainlanes of Hwy. 290—are estimated to be completed and opened to traffic around the Beltway 8 interchange.  They will provide motorists with a separate roadway to enter and exit mainlanes.

Hwy. 290 westbound mainlanes from Gessner Road to Jones Road will also be closed from 9 p.m. Jan. 22 through 5 a.m. Jan. 25. More information on what is in store for Hwy. 290 in 2016 can be found in our Dec. 22 article and at www.my290.com.

Timing adjustments will be made at traffic signals on the Hwy. 290 frontage road to facilitate increased traffic levels, officials said. All closures are subject to change due to weather, emergency work or other events.
