5. McNeil Road extension
At its completion, the project will serve as a bypass road for downtown Round Rock to improve the flow of traffic, reduce travel times and lower traffic accidents.

Status: The railroad crossing at Burnet Street and Park Lane is closed until early-to-mid June. McNeil Road east of I-35 is open, though traffic no longer can connect to East Bagdad Avenue via the roadway underneath the Mays Street bridge. All traffic must turn left on Blair Street or follow McNeil Road.

7. Schneider Boulevard construction
The project will connect Alliance Boulevard to Innovation Boulevard and provide infrastructure to the upcoming Innovation Business Park development site.

Status: Utility work is underway on the western side of the project. Roadway construction will begin after utility installation is complete on the eastern end of the street. According to city officials, the next phase of construction will construct curbs and gutters as well as work on the road itself.

Cost: $4.95 million
Funding source: city of Hutto

8. CR 119 extension
The project is a roadway extension for CR 119/Ed Schmidt Boulevard from Limmer Loop to Chandler Road in Hutto. Construction crews will work on creating two lanes of a future four-lane roadway with shoulders and a traffic signal at CR 119 and Limmer.

Status: The contractor has begun excavation work between Limmer and Cottonwood Creek Elementary School and doing preliminary construction for the proposed Cottonwood Creek Bridge.

Signal work at the intersection of Limmer and CR 119 is underway, and county officials expect a signal to be operational at the location sometime this summer.

Upcoming projects

10. East Pflugerville Parkway Reconstruction Project Phase 2
This project is the second half of the East Pflugerville Parkway Reconstruction Project. Renovations to the intersection at SH 130 and East Pflugerville Parkway encompass the first phase of this construction project.

The city will now reconstruct a portion of East Pflugerville Parkway from Colorado Sand Drive to Becker Farm Road, turning the road into a two-lane urban street, which will ultimately become a four-lane street.

Crews will lay approximately 4,400 linear feet of new asphalt during construction, and a non-concrete pedestrian pathway will be built during this phase as well.

Status: The project will go out to bid in May.
Timeline: May-August
Cost: estimated $2.675 million
Funding source: city of Pflugerville bonds

11. Pfennig Lane roadway improvements
Pfennig Lane will be reconstructed to be a three-lane section that includes a two-way central left-turn lane, curbs and gutters, and curve modifications.

Status: The project is currently under design and bidding will open in May, according to Pflugerville officials.
Timeline: Project to be bid and begin in summer 2018.
Cost: TBD
Funding source: city of Pflugerville

12. Hwy. 79 improvements
The project is paid for with funds from the tax increment reinvestment zone Hutto entered into with Williamson County. Work will be done on Hwy. 79 to make necessary improvements for the entrance to the Co-Op District, including curb and gutter construction and the addition of a median.

Status: City officials say the project will likely start at the end of the Hutto ISD school year, which is May 31.
Timeline: summer-December
Cost: $196,214
Funding source: city of Hutto

13. Railroad quiet zones, Phase 1
This project will create railroad and street intersections that eliminate the need for train horns inside the city limits of Round Rock.

Motorists will be prevented from crossing railroad intersections through the additions of medians and four crossing arms. Additionally, red flashing lights will trigger more quickly than at non-quiet zone railroad crossings. Both the city and Union Pacific Corp. will work on the project.

Once construction is finished, the Federal Railroad Administration will need to certify Round Rock as a railroad quiet zone.

Status: The first phase of the two-phase project will run from CR 172 to Burnet Street along McNeil Road. Weather permitting, Union Pacific crews are set to begin work on that segment sometime in August.
Timeline: August 2018-winter 2019
Cost: $3.1 million
Funding sources: city of Round Rock, federal grants
