Joan Huffman, the Republican incumbent for the Texas Senate District 17 position, is projected to win over Democrat Rita Lucido with 64.4 percent of the votes at 102 of 210 precincts reporting.



Huffman received 86,799 votes, leading Lucido, who garnered 44,407 votes, or 32.9 percent, with 102 of 210 precincts reporting. Libertarian George Hardy and Green Party candidate David Courtney received 1,611 and 578 early votes, respectively.



Huffman was first elected to the position in 2008. Previously Huffman served as a district court judge, a chief prosecutor, a special crimes gang prosecutor and as legal counsel to the Organized Crime Narcotics Task Force for Harris County. Huffman attended Louisiana State University.
