Todd and his wife Corey Hayden opened Hop Scholar Ale House at 610 Rayford Road in May with the concept of bringing craft beer to south Montgomery County.
"This place has been starving for craft beer," Todd said.
When the bar opened in the spring, it featured 27 craft selections on tap. Today it has 39, Todd said. Among the selections are nitros, ciders, IPAs and lighter beers, among many others.
Hop Scholar's No. 1 seller is Bombshell Blonde, which hails from the Southern Star Brewery in Conroe, where Todd used to work.
He said only a few beers, such as Bombshell, remain on tap while the others are rotated out to make room for newer selections.
"Anytime anything special comes out, people just flock to it," he said. "There are so many craft beers and there are not enough taps to keep them fresh. I always want something new, and people want to try new things."
Todd said he plans to add six more taps to the bar to keep up with growing demand, a cask engine to the facility and possibly food selections. Hop Scholar patrons are free to bring in their own food from nearby restaurants.
"We're working really hard to get a food plan," he said.
