The Mason Road Chick-fil-A in Katy that went under construction for renovations in May is preparing for its re-Grand Opening Oct. 2. Doors open at 6 a.m.

Renovations involved a complete teardown of the former structure with workers going all the way down to the underground utilities to prepare for the expansion. Located at 369 S. Mason Road, the renovated restaurant offers a 40 percent increase in seating with 136 total seats, said Jennifer Pierce, a representative with Chick-fil-A.

The new location also provides drive-thru customers with two lanes and a separate transaction window to increase speed. Inside the facility, door and room dividers have been organized to create natural, orderly lines, officials said. A larger kitchen makes it possible for the staff to provide a greater amount of food as well.

The restaurant also features a revamped children's playground. Events start right away with a Preschool Playhouse event scheduled for Oct. 6 and Family Nights taking place every Wednesday, Director of Marketing Wendy Reinwald said. Upcoming family nights include "Dinner and a Musical," featuring a live performance of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" Oct. 15, and "Safari Night" with animals from the Houston ZooMobile Oct. 29.

Franchise owner Rusty Wylie said the expansion will help alleviate the increased demand from a growing customer base. He recalled opening the restaurant in 1995 with 45 employees.

"We will reopen with 80 team members and an innovatively redesigned building, which we believe will help us serve others better than ever before," he said.
