According to unofficial results, Paul Bettencourt has won the Republican Primary election for State Senate, District 7, representing Harris County, 89.6 percent to 10.4 percent for James Wilson.
In Harris County, 28,867 voters have supported Bettencourt, compared with 3,348 supporting Wilson, according to the results. Harris County has 52.1 percent of precincts reporting.

According to unofficial results, Paul Bettencourt leads in the Republican Primary election for State Senate, District 7, representing Harris County, 90.2 percent to 9.8 percent for James Wilson.
In Harris County, 22,145 voters have supported Bettencourt, compared with 2,409 supporting Wilson, according to results from the absentee and early voters.
Bettencourt is owner of Bettencourt Tax Advisors, a KSEV Radio personality and former Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector. He has also been Republican Party of Texas Treasurer, Harris County Republican Party Vice Chair and Treasurer, National Republican Party Delegate from Texas in 2000, 2004, 2008, and Presidential Elector in 2012.
Bettencourt has pushed for election voter identifications laws and the creation of a U.S. Citizenship list and photo identifications.
Wilson is a Harris County insurance agent and former Regional Director for U.S. Senator Phil Gramm. He is a conservative who campaigned on his strong belief on gun rights, creating higher wage jobs, improving schools and managing the challenges of population growth. Wilson says he is a student of the Bible and the Constitution.
"I am an outsider to these political machines, and have neither the influence to be "hand-picked" for a position nor the fortune to buy it. I have nothing to offer you in exchange for your vote, except my promise of honest hard work and fierce loyalty to the people of this district," Wilson says on his website.
Republican Dan Patrick, who currently holds the seat, is running for lieutenant governor.
