To cross the threshold at Beijing Ranch, at 1251 Pin Oak Rd., Ste. 129, is to be transported. The restaurant and tea bar, which opened about six months ago, is located in a retail center along a busy road. Inside, however, it is subtly lit and decorated in an antique Chinese style that matches the traditional Chinese food.

The restaurant has garnered a reputation among many of its customers for having authentic food and an intimate ambience.

Owner and manager William Wong said he aims to provide a relaxing place for people to come and enjoy a variety of fresh and savory dishes.

Local residents, many of whom Wong has come to know by name, seem to favor dishes such as the Golden Gate Shrimp ($9), Szechuan Style Fish Fillet ($10) and Kong Pao Chicken ($8). Customers can also arrange for delivery or take-out orders.

Wong said he has no plans for expansion at the moment and has enjoyed operating in his current location.
