State Representative Rick Miller, R–Sugar Land, announced Nov. 11 his plans to run for re-election to his seat in the Texas House of Representatives, overseeing the cities of Sugar Land and Richmond as well as the Greatwood, New Territory, Pecan Grove and Four Corners communities.

"It is with great excitement today that I am filing to seek re-election to the Texas House," Miller said. "I was humbled when the good people of Sugar Land and Richmond elected me to my first term in 2012, and my hope is that I have worked to earn their trust for another term in 2014."

Miller is a member of the state's Defense and Veterans' Affairs Committee and Elections Committee. It is no coincidence that Miller announced his bid for re-election on Veteran's Day 2013, he said.

"If it was not for the courageous sacrifice of men and women in uniform, I would not be [running] for a seat in the Texas House of Representatives," he said.

Miller is a graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and has served in various positions in both the military and public sectors. He is the founder and president of Trevanion Group, a leadership development company based in Sugar Land. He is currently serving the second year of his first term in the Texas House of Representatives.

State primaries are set to take place May 2014 and the general election is scheduled for Nov. 4, 2014.
