The Houston-Galveston Area Council is seeking public comment on its "Our Great Region 2040" project, a plan that addresses challenges and opportunities in six key areas.

The draft plan offers what H-GAC is calling six "big ideas" in the areas of economic development, environment, health, housing, transportation and resiliency.

"Our Great Region 2040 is a regional plan for the 13-county Houston-Galveston region that involved high level plans looking at how our region can be a better place to live work and prosper in 2040 than what it is today," said Meredith Dang, H-GAC land use and transportation coordinator.

The plan also contains 15 goals related to people, places and prosperity and more than 75 voluntary strategies that communities, local governments and individuals can use to make their communities great places to live and work.

Dang said H-GAC will present a final plan, including public comment and feedback, to the organization's board of directors in February for final approval.

"Then local entities, nonprofits, governments could adopt the plan or individual strategies moving forward," she said. "Not all strategies are going to be a good fit for local governments, and everything is going to be voluntary."

The plan is available for public comment through Nov. 15. There are four ways to provide feedback:
