Voters will have a chance to meet the candidates up for election on the Cy-Fair ISD school board Oct. 15 at a candidate forum. The forum will take place at the Berry Center—8877 Barker Cypress Road, Cypress—at 7 p.m.

Positions 5, 6 and 7 are up for election this year, but only Position 6 is contested. Shaik Ahmed, co-founder and executive director of NW Cypress Pediatrics and Family Medicine, has filed to run against incumbent Don Ryan, who has served on the school board for 13 years, including as a former president.

Incumbents John Ogletree Jr. and Bob Covey are both running unopposed for positions 5 and 7, respectively.

The forum will open by giving candidates the chance to introduce themselves and explain why they are running, according to a CFISD press release. This will be followed by a question-and-answer session moderated by Jason Culpepper, Houston Metro publisher for Community Impact Newspaper.

Questions will be taken from the audience at the forum. Voters who cannot attend can submit questions in advance to [email protected].

The forum will air live on CFTV and can also be viewed live on the district website. The forum will be available as a video-on-demand on the website on Oct. 18.

Early voting runs from Oct. 21–Nov. 1. Polls will be open from 7 a.m.–7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 5. For a list of early voting and Election Day voting locations and hours in Harris County, go to www.harrisvotes.org.
